    All Guys Are Jerks

A while back, my oldest daughter had written a post referring to a dream that she had had. It was a nightmare and she was scared. Somehow the dream was turned into a debate over her sexuality and how she should look at males. I did what I always do; I sat back for a moment and took in what everyone had posted. My response was that not all guys are jerks, not all guys are arrogant, not all guys are immature, and not all guys will leave you every chance they get. I kept wondering what this world was teaching my children. Is this world based off of the…

Parent Bullies: These Parents Have Gone Too Far

I hate FaceBook for all the bullies and stupid people who think that it is cool to post things that are probably going to land them in jail or to instigate fights between people. The biggest bullies that I have seen on FaceBook lately are parent bullies. Yes! I said it! Parents are some of the biggest bullies, and it is not up to them to single out a person who is under the age of eighteen. Today, while scrolling through my FaceBook updates, I came across a post from someone I went to school with. I am a very opinionated person and I don’t care who knows my opinions when…

Shit I learned by the Time I turned 30

Thirty was so strange for me. I have really had to come to terms with the fact that I am now a walking and talking adult. -C.S. Lewis (Marati, 2012)   Nothing in Life is as It Seems   This was one of the hardest things for me to realize. I saw everything a certain way. Most of us grew up with parents that said we could have it all, as long as we reach for the stars. We dream of a world where everything is perfect, just to have it crushed in adulthood. I always thought that everything was black and white, but being an adult meant that I would…

How to Set Clear Rules for Your Teenager

Teens will often be disrespectful because they do not have clear rules set for them. Rules are a great thing to have in a parent-child relationship. Rules set boundaries that children cannot cross and when they do, they must deal with the consequences. Setting unclear rules will only set you up for failure later on. As a parent, one thing that I learned about children and especially teenagers, is that you must have clear rules or else they will tend to argue with you because you did not specify what they did wrong and that what they said or done that was inappropriate. If you tell a child that they…

It is Okay to Deal with Grief in Your Own Way

The week following the death of my son, I stopped crying in front of people and bottled up inside of my own shell. I still cried at night and I still had the memories that came along with not knowing what was going to happen next. For the most part, I found myself in his room late at night crying by myself and holding onto his Spongebob pillow. I heard people from across the room saying to one another that it was strange that I stopped crying but what they didn’t know was that I had stopped crying in front of them and built a lot of anger around this…

Oklahoma Mother Wants a Harsher Sentence for the Woman Accused of Killing Her Son

She lives in Oklahoma City. I was notified that the lady who had killed my son, Gaje Florence, was only getting charged with negligent homicide.
